60 Hours in Rome: A Travel Diary

Roma, Italia - 02-05 August 2016

Of ruins, Roman arts and architecture, carbo and gelato overload - here's a little rundown on our lovely trip to the great city of Rome.

Day 1.
14:00 arrival in Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino (FCO) Airport. Got our 3-day Roma Pass, and off we were.
15:30 check in at our AirBnB, refreshed, and on our feet.
17:00 Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum, lunch/dinner, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, gelatoooo!

Day 2.
We were supposedly off early to witness the Papal audience, but we opted to wait for one of our friends who's just arriving that morning. Sooo...
10:00 St. Peter's Basilica, Tombs of Popes.
Lunch.
13:00 Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel.
16:00 I had a serving of Affogato at Lemongrass Gelato. Happiness!
17:00 Castel Sant' Angelo, Ponte Sant'Angelo, Parco Adriano
We just crashed at the park and savored the shade and fresh air, and really just took a rest. We are getting old! haha then when we were finally on our feet again, on our way to Piazza Navona, we got lost and bumped into this perfect find - Antica Taverna - had our fill (and seconds) of pasta and pizza and wine, walked our way to our next gelato stop, and just headed home after some groceries for breakfast the next day. hihi

Day 3.
08:00. Pompeii Tour with Amalfi Coast drive (through Walks of Italy - check out the post before this);
18:00. Back at the Colosseum, Il Vittoriano - Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II from afar
19:00. Cavour 313 for dinner. Oh yes, it was good! Not for all of us though, as most of the dishes were smoked and really not cooked. My tummy was happy, sorry for being selfish girls! :p And then again, gelato!!! This time all natural at Gelateria Fatamorgana. So gooooddd!

For 6 travelers who had 2 -3 servings of gelato per day, with individual tastes, and having a taste of at least 3 flavors in each Gelateria, here are some of them worth a mention: Gelateria dei Gracchi, Gelateria Fatamorgana, Lemongrass Gelato.

Kisses. Hugs. And you cannot and should not do Rome in a flash. Take your time, enjoy your precious time. And try not to go there at the peak of summer. The heat is just draining.
