Ilocos Sur: Heritage Village Food and Finds

13 and 14 January 2013 - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

Now, let me get into details. Roughly 9 hours on the road on a Sunday, we got to the city of Vigan a little before sunset. Although we really didn't get the chance to take sunset shots since it was gloomy and drizzling when we got there, I still felt how I would've felt if I were watching the sun go down in a place so nostalgic and surreal, it could've been specially handpicked from a movie set.

After a quick stroll through Calle Crisologo, the heavens poured, so we had to take shelter. We stayed in Condotel Asuncion, thank you very much to relatives and connections for a very comfortable place! They've got everything a tourist needs and the place is perfectly situated for those who'd opt to tour Vigan by foot. It is conveniently across Plaza Burgos, just a minute away from food shops and all the buzz in the city, but the soundproof rooms allow you a good night sleep! And extra credits to the very courteous staff!

Very modern and beautifully furnished.

3 beds plus one mattress for all of us, and the room is still too spacious! Neat, isn't it?

So after a quick recharge for us and our phones' and cams' batteries, we were off to dinner.

Cafe Leona's bagnet sisig and longaniza, and sinigang na bangus (if I remembered right), and some vegan choices for our vegan and vegetarian friends! :) Nice ambiance, a tourist-friendly menu, and happy bellies. I even failed to take decent food shots. Pardon the hungry me. We then had some cocktails, a history class, and horror stories to cap the night off.

And cheered to a sunny Monday!

Vigan is a little peaceful city that sleeps at 10 pm! We wanted to have some desserts, but the dessert place we went to, Dulcelise, was already about to close when we got there. So we just had some Reese's cake for take away, (which by the way is really good), and took a group mirror shot with their really pretty interiors!

Even Legacy, a club of some sort was closed that night! Truly a journey back in time! That was our cue to retire early that night. After a quick shower, I was wrapped up in comfort and snored the night away.

The next morning, we had breakfast in the Javiers' residence and had a bunch of the very curious malunggay pandesal with our coffee! :)) It was surprisingly good! Hihi

After our hearty breakfast, we strolled along Calle Crisologo again to grab some pasalubong for our families and friends back home.

Thanks, photographer/blogger (slash all other amazing things), for most of the photos. :D

The Ilocos vinegar that were confiscated at the airports. *insert tears and tantrums here*

Just a couple of hours after breakfast, when the sun was high up there already, and after having something for almost everyone, we grabbed early lunch at Shakey's in JTC Mall and headed on to our afternoon itinerary (post coming soon).

And oh, don't forget to drop by the Empanadahan right at Plaza Burgos just across McDonald's. A whole new empanada experience I will never forget!

So good!

Fast forward to dinner at Red Wok Kitchen with their tasty Chinese dishes! And waving goodbye to our lovely cousin, ate Cecille and her very welcoming family. Thank you very much for the hospitality.

Vigan, you were awesome!

Instead of sharing with you our itinerary, ended up sharing with you our food trip! Probably gained a couple of pounds in just 2 days, but it was well worth it! :)

Coming up: Baluarte and Cabugao Beach Resort experience!
