My First Classic

Here's a little peak of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

The book was mostly narrated by Ellen Dean (aka Nelly), the Wuthering Heights' and Thrushcross Grange's housekeeper to Mr. Lockwood, Thrushcross Grange's tenant.

It's a story of Catherine Earnshaw falling in love with her father's adopted boy, whom he found wandering and lost. However Hindley Earnshaw, Catherine's brother was so against their affection; and happenings sided with Hindley as Catherine lived for a while with the Linton's, making Edgar Linton fall in love with her, and her infatuated with him, leaving Heathcliff out. Catherine and Edgar got married, and Heathcliff returned with wealth and the mind of revenge. Heathcliff and Edgar's sister, Isabella eloped with Heathcliff's plan of revenge and the possibility of inheriting Thrushcross Grange. They had a son, named Linton.

A little after Heathcliff got back, Hindley died, living a son, Hareton, and Heathcliff inherited Wuthering Heights. On the other side, Catherine got ill, gave birth to little Catherine Linton, and died.

Heathcliff still haven't gotten over his love for Catherine, and he wanted to put Edgar down. So he made little Cathy fall down the trap he has set, using his son, Linton, and made her live in the Heights to take care of his son, and making her suffer. And when Edgar died, Heathcliff still inherited Thrushcross Grange. Linton also died, and Heathcliff not being able to move on, met and talked with Catherine's ghost, making him all lightened up. In the end little Catherine and Hareton fell in love with each other, and Heathcliff finally met Catherine in the next life.

My first Classic ever, and phew! I've survived after my third try. After a year that this book has been with me, I've finally had the focus and determination to get through with it. It took a long while for me to commit to this book and not be tempted to read other more interesting, more enjoyable, and especially easier to understand books; and it took another long while to get my eyes and my mind hooked to it. And no regrets! Though I admit I got bored, it got dragging, it made me want to give up a lot of times; but there's this certain point where you would turn to your autistic self and really enjoy the flow. There's the suspense, the thrill, the part where you feel like you're Catherine Linton and crumple Heathcliff's face, and there's also a point where you'd feel how he's feeling and understand why he's acting out.

I'm not sure if my little summary made sense to you, but that's only how much I can make sense to myself writing as fast as I can, before the batteries drain up.

And thank you to the Twilight and Vampire Diaries series for mentioning this book and making me all intrigued to read it.

And to Mika Batucan for letting her book lodge with me for more than a year now. :)

That's the book I'm reading. :)
